5Great carry-on bag
By PokerStudent
I fly about a dozen short business trips per year for work, and this is my third carry-on bag. Cheaper nylon bags do ok when I carry them on, but on smaller planes (I get stuck on Embraer 145s a lot) I have to gate check them. And sometimes, I have a back-pack and I prefer to just check this bag. The cheap nylon bags I've used just don't handle the rough and tumble treatment they receive from the baggage handlers. I briefly considered a nice ballistic nylon bag, but at well over $300, I can easily just keep buying cheaper $70 bags for years. I wasn't convinced that the expense would be a good investment.

But now the hardshell bags are available, and I was willing to try one out. The Delsey bag fits into the overhead on most planes. I have to gate check it on the 50 seater flights, but that's no different from my previous bags, so no change there. It doesn't expand, as most nylon bags do, but I find it adequate sized for up to 5-7 day trips, and it's only 1/2 full for 2-3 day trips. Perfect. The handles were the first thing to go on my prior bags. I believe it's because they get tagged with "priority" unloading, and the handlers are probably pulling it out of the bottom of a pile of luggage. The telescoping handles also get bent while retracted, as they bear the weight of everything piled on top. The hard shell of this bag solves both of these issues. Even though the shell does bend (I don't recommend standing on it), it does provide some protection. But the big advantage is that the material is much lower friction than nylon bags. It just slides out from under a pile of luggage with much less force, and it just doesn't take the damage that my nylon bags did.

It's been on 11 trips now, so it's still fairly new, but it has taken zero damage so I expect years of use.

UPDATE 7/1/2013: It's been another year, and this bag still looks nearly as new as when I bought it. It just holds up. I have upgraded from 4 stars, to 5.

4So far so good
By dephal
I've only taken this suitcase on one trip so far so I can't speak to its durability. It is extremely lightweight but also spacious enough to easily fit three or four days' worth of stuff. The wheels work beautifully and the suitcase rolls extremely easily. So easily, in fact, that I nearly lost it when a atrong gust of wind pushed it off the sidewalk and into the street! It's attractive inside and out.

I have only two complaints. First, although the color was stated as "blue" it's really much more of a purple. It's a nice purple, but you'd be disappointed if you were expecting a true blue. And second, there are no handles other than the one on top, which makes hauling it into luggage compartments and car trunks a little more challenging.

4Not always allowed to carry on.
By L. Matino
The product itself is great. Light and easy to maneuver. However, we already had luggage and bought this primarily to be a carry-on bag. But on a recent United Flight which involved using a smaller plane, they wouldn't let us carry it on. So be aware that while you shouldn't have any issues riding on 727 aircraft or larger, you may not be able to get this on a smaller plane.
